"La Peur du Vide"  2022  "The Fear of Emptiness"
Three vertical bundles of reclaimed threads—green, yellow, and pale gold—hover against a dark void, like dancers suspended mid-fall.

Each form is distinct yet related, echoing the body’s instinct to resist gravity while yearning to let go.

This composition from the Qi–Dance collection stages a quiet confrontation with emptiness: the fear of falling, the beauty of floating, the vulnerability of exposure.

Olka Schok’s Fils-Free Technique allows the fibers to breathe and tremble, capturing the moment just before motion begins.

Yet...This was the first time that the technique of delicately perforating paper had been used to give more vibrancy to the three solitary forms.

The piece invites viewers to contemplate the choreography of hesitation—the way we brace, pause, and eventually move.

La peur du vide is not a descent but a delicate negotiation with space, a poetic study in verticality and trust.

It reminds us that movement often begins in silence, and courage is born in the void.
